EVALUATION PROCEDURES

Written Tests: To obtain a job in certain fields, such as criminal justice and secretarial, you must pass a written and/or performance test. The tests are offered on the following basis. Proper identification with your picture and signature, such as a driver’s license, is required for admission to all examinations.

Scheduled or Reserved Seating Examinations: Written tests are offered on certain Saturdays in selected cities. If you request a scheduled examination and your application is approved, you will receive an admission slip by mail for the next available test session showing the address of the testing center you have chosen and the date and time of your appointment. This may take a month or longer due to limited seating.

Select ONE city where you wish to take a written test on Saturday:

Albany [U]

Augusta - [S]

Columbus - [Y]

Gainesville - [F]

Macon- [M]

Statesboro - [H]

Valdosta - [L]

Retest Policy: Your score will normally remain on the list of available applicants for six months from the date of your examination (and, in many cases, you may also extend your score for an additional six months). Generally, you can apply to be evaluated or to take a written test for the same job only three times in one year, with a minimum 30 day waiting period between examinations. Upon re-examination, the higher of your scores will generally be kept. The lower score will not be accessible to employing agencies.

ACCOMMODATIONS FOR APPLICANTS WITH DISABILITIES

For Scheduled testing purposes only, do you require special examination accommodations because of a disability? If so, attach a note to this application asking us to call. PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS ARE NECESSARY. Note that in order to receive accommodations for testing, you must (1) at least one (1) day PRIOR to the test; (2) have the accommodation authorized BEFORE being tested; and (3) provide documentation to show the need for the accommodation (if requested). If you have questions about the examination procedure for applicants with disabilities, you may call the Georgia Relay Service at 7-1-1.

Training and Experience Ratings: If you apply for a job that does not require a written test, your evaluation will be based on the experience, education, and training

you describe on your application. You will also be evaluated on any supplemental information you may be asked to provide.

VETERAN’S PREFERENCE: The laws of the State of Georgia require that points be added to passing examination scores for certain veterans and combat troops of the Armed Forces of the United States. The following types of preference are currently granted. If you want to apply for Veteran’s Preference, check the type below and attach copies of the appropriate document(s) to your application. Copies cannot be returned. (SPB 16.102)

  3. What eligibility requirements must I meet to apply?

To be eligible for employment with the State of Georgia, applicants must meet several criteria. These include:

    • Being a United States citizen or having authorization to work in the U.S.
    • Having positive rehire status if previously employed by the State.
    • Not having felony convictions for certain positions.

Additionally, applicants must answer questions regarding their employment history and any criminal convictions on the application.

  4. What should I include in the work history section of the form?

In the work history section, applicants should provide detailed information about their previous employment. This includes the name of the employer, job title, dates of employment, and a description of job duties. It is important to include military and volunteer experience as well. If the space provided is insufficient, applicants can attach a supplemental work history page. A complete work history is crucial, as incomplete information may lead to disqualification from consideration.

  5. Are there accommodations for applicants with disabilities?

Yes, the State of Georgia provides accommodations for applicants with disabilities during the testing process. If you require special examination accommodations, you must attach a note to the application requesting assistance. Common mistakes

Filling out the State of Georgia Application Ms27 1 form can be a straightforward process, but mistakes can lead to delays or disqualification. One common error is providing incomplete information. Many applicants forget to fill in all required fields, such as their job title and job code. This omission can hinder the application from being processed. It is crucial to double-check that every section is completed accurately before submission.

Another frequent mistake involves not attaching necessary documentation. For instance, if an applicant answers "yes" to questions regarding felony convictions or previous dismissals, they must provide an explanation. Failing to include these explanations can result in the application being deemed incomplete. Always remember to attach any required documents to support your answers.

Misunderstanding eligibility requirements is also a common pitfall. Some applicants may not fully grasp the employment eligibility criteria, such as citizenship or work authorization. This misunderstanding can lead to incorrect answers on the application. It is essential to read the eligibility section carefully to ensure that you meet all requirements before applying.

Finally, many applicants overlook the importance of the certification section at the end of the application. This section requires a signature, which confirms that all provided information is accurate. Submitting an unsigned application will result in automatic disqualification. Make sure to sign and date your application to avoid this simple yet significant error.

Documents used along the form

Along with this application, several other forms and documents may be required to ensure a complete submission. Below is a list of commonly used forms that often accompany the Ms27 1 form, each serving a specific purpose in the application process.

  • Supplemental Work History Page: This document allows applicants to provide additional details about their work experience. If the main application does not have enough space, this page can be attached to give a more comprehensive view of an applicant's background.
  • Veteran's Preference Documentation: For veterans applying for state jobs, this documentation is crucial. It includes a DD214 form and any relevant certificates that demonstrate military service or disability status. This helps ensure that veterans receive the appropriate preference points in the hiring process.
  • Transcripts or Diplomas: Applicants may need to submit educational transcripts or diplomas to verify their educational qualifications. This is particularly important for positions that require specific degrees or certifications.
  • Licenses and Certifications: If a job requires specific licenses or certifications, applicants must provide copies of these documents. This could include a driver’s license, teaching certificate, or any other professional credentials relevant to the position.
  • Disability Accommodation Request: Applicants needing special accommodations for testing due to a disability should include a note with their application. This document outlines their needs and ensures that the necessary arrangements are made in advance.
  • Cover Letter or Resume: While not mandatory, submitting a cover letter or resume can enhance an application. These documents allow candidates to present their skills and experiences in a more personalized manner, helping them stand out in the hiring process.

Including these documents can improve the chances of a successful application. Always double-check the specific requirements for the position you are applying for to ensure you submit a complete and accurate application package.

Misconceptions

Here are nine misconceptions about the State of Georgia Application MS27 1 form:

  1. Only Georgia residents can apply. Many people believe that only residents of Georgia can apply for state jobs. However, individuals from other states can also apply, provided they meet the eligibility requirements.
  2. Submitting a resume is enough. Some applicants think that submitting a resume alone suffices. In reality, the application form must be completed fully to be considered for employment.
  3. Felony convictions automatically disqualify applicants. While felony convictions can impact eligibility, not all positions automatically disqualify candidates with such backgrounds. Each case is evaluated individually.
  4. Online applications are not secure. Many individuals worry about the security of online applications. The State of Georgia uses secure systems to protect personal information during the application process.
  5. There are no accommodations for applicants with disabilities. Some believe that accommodations are unavailable. In fact, applicants can request special accommodations for testing and must provide necessary documentation.
  6. All jobs require a written test. Not every position requires a written test. Some jobs evaluate applicants based solely on their experience and education as described in the application.
  7. Veteran’s preference is not applicable. There is a misconception that veteran’s preference does not apply to all applicants. In reality, veterans may receive additional points on their scores for certain positions.
  8. Contacting previous employers is not necessary. Some applicants think they can skip this step. However, providing supervisor contact information is crucial for verification of work history.
  9. Applications can be submitted without a signature. Some individuals believe they can submit applications without signing them. Unsigned applications will not be processed, making a signature essential.
